I mentioned to you guys that I have a dominant right brain. Which means, I'm more inclined to art, languages and philosophy. And if I were living in ancient Greek time, you would see me hanging out with Plato, Socrates and Heraclitus, making fun and bullying the hell of Aristotle, Galen and Pythagoras.
I guess that explains why I sucked at Math but always came out top in Bahasa Melayu, why I love writing essays, and why I love doing a favorite pastime of mine; drawing.
When I was a kid, I always draw orang lidi, cars, houses and tractors in my father's books. I would draw these stuffs in any blank page in his Hamka and agama books I could find in my dad's reading room. Surprisingly, he didn't mind at all.
In primary school, I always have a buku rampaian just for drawing purposes. In this book, I would draw footballers, cool superbikes and any cool cartoon characters that I found in comics. At this stage, I was heavily influenced by cartoonists of Ana Muslim; an educational comic that I could buy because my mom won't let me buy Ujang, Dragon Ball and other comics that she described as 'tak berpekdah' stuffs.
My drawing wasn't really top notch at that time. I can't draw lips, fingers and feet of human and if I did, it all looked weird. But still, I was considerably good amongst all other kids in the school. Everybody would ask me to look at my buku rampaian to look at my new and latest 'masterpiece'. Haha. Especially girls! I tell you fellow gentlemen, chicks dig artists!
But that didn't last long until I got into secondary schools. After UPSR, I went to boarding schools. And usually in boarding school, you can't squeeze your hobby time in your tight schedule. Plus, the school that I went to, is a frickin' science school! It was hell. It was like all everybody could talk about was frickin' science, science and science!
So, for 5 long years I hadn't picked up where I left off after primary school. My drawing skills are still there but it didn't progress much as I haven't got any time to practice. An hour of Art class per week didn't help me at all. My sketch books were filled with shitty drawings. Girls didn't look at my drawings anymore. Hahaha. I felt like I'm just another regular loser in the house.
After SPM, I got a wee bit of time to waste. So, I got back into drawing and I started sketching a lot of personalities in newspapers. Thank god, I still keep these shitty sketches. It reminds me of how much I suck at drawing at these days and how much I've changed in the past 10 years.
